Kraker van de Noordzee (Squatting the North Sea) is a documentary by Pim Havinga and Peter Balm about artist Jonat Deelstra, who wants to bring coral back to the North Sea, a place where solid structures have disappeared.

His idea? To place ceramic coffins, containing human remains, in the sea. These coffins act as a foundation for coral to grow, creating a kind of ‘sacral reef’ that transforms death into new life while protecting marine ecosystems.
The film is still in development. With support of Mondriaan Fonds, Amarte Fonds and Cultuurfonds. Special thanks to Bas Zwartepoorte.
